Gavin Carter

Gavin Carter

Chief Executive Officer

Gavin has over 30 years’ experience in the consumer electronics and appliance industry. Starting as a retail store floor manager early in his career, Gavin became Betta Stores Limited youngest State Manager at the age of 25. He then went on to hold a number of National Senior Management roles within BSL. Prior to joining the senior leadership team of BSR Group in 2011, Gavin also held a number of Senior roles at the National Associated Retail Traders of Australia (NARTA) for 5 years in Sydney across Strategic planning, Merchandising, Buying, Category Management & Marketing. Since joining BSR, Gavin managed the merchandising and retail services teams, which provide direct support to the BSR Group’s network of member stores and more recently Chief Operating Officer overseeing the wider operations of the business across many departments and being an integral part of the Strategic direction for the group.

Adrian Mitchell

Adrian Mitchell

Chief Customer Officer

Adrian has over 24 years’ experience within the consumer electronics and appliance industry. Prior to joining the BSR Group in 2012, Adrian gained experience with WOW Sight & Sound, initially as a retail store manager and then for 7 years as a manager in the audio/visual category. At WOW, Adrian was responsible for new store rollouts involving procurement, in-store merchandising and the development of tactical marketing plans. Since joining, Adrian has guided the BSR Group through major updates to the group’s website, email and SMS platforms, digital marketing campaigns and the “Go Local” strategy. Recently Adrian has taken on an expanded role, including Corporate & Franchise Retail, Retail Environment, Commercial, Insurance, Marketing & eCommerce. This change has been made with the view of further integrating store operations and marketing to improve the end-to-end customer experience through closer alignment of these areas of the business.

Stewart Nash

Stuart Nash

Chief Financial Officer

BSc (Hons), FCA, MBA, BFP
Stuart is a Chartered Accountant with more than 30 years’ experience within accounting and finance, the last 19 years of which have been within the retail industry. Prior to joining Betta Stores Limited as Senior Business Analyst in 2005, Stuart was CFO at mentor-uk.com Limited and Wardle Group in the UK, and Manager with KPMG for 5 years, specialising in audit and transaction services. Stuart has been involved with BSR Group since its inception and advises senior management on a wide range of business issues including strategic planning and financial management.

David Berry

David Berry

Chief Operating Officer

David joined the BSR Group in November 2017. He has over 34 years’ senior leadership experience in business acquisitions, importation, sourcing and approvals plus retail and manufacturing. He has held senior leadership positions in Retail and Wholesale electrical, furniture, front of wall plumbing and import businesses and along with building strong retail focussed brands he has partnered with major retail businesses to develop & create their own private label brands. Along with David’s strong operational and importing skills he has a proven track record of delivering successful projects and business improvement outcomes. As Chief Operating Officer David has a role in overseeing the wider operations of the business across many departments and being an integral part of the Strategic direction for the group.

Alison Riley

Chief Merchandising Officer

Alison has over 26 years experience in the consumer electronics and telecommunications industries, spanning senior national roles in sales, marketing and management. Alison has held positions with Panasonic, Ingram Micro and LG Electronics, where she was Key Account Manager for Narta and BSR Group and responsible for strategic partner plans and marketing strategy.

Since joining BSR in 2017 initially as Category Manager, then Group Manager Merchandising and now Chief Merchandise Officer, Alison is instrumental in driving BSR group's merchandise and supplier strategy, forging strategic supplier partnerships, and increasing BSR Group's share of market.

Jessica McKinnon

Chief Legal Officer & Company Secretary

Jessica has been a practicing solicitor since January 2001 and has worked in both Queensland and New South Wales. Starting her career as a property lawyer, she worked for large law firms including Allens, before moving inhouse and working for Macquarie University, TPG Telecom and RACQ. After formal training as a Chartered Company Secretary, Jessica first joined the BSR Group in a dual legal/company secretary role in 2019. As the BSR Group has grown Jessica’s team has expanded to include responsibility for legal, risk and compliance and environmental social governance. She completed a Graduate Certificate of Business Administration with Deakin University in 2023 and was recently appointed a member of the Governance Institute of Australia’s Sustainability Committee.

Graeme Cunningham

Executive Chairman of the Board

Graeme joined the BSR Group in November 2010 as CEO and was appointed a director in February 2021, Managing Director in June 2021, and then Executive Chairman May 2024. He has been associated with the Betta brand for more than 36 years and has over 47 years’ experience in the franchise and electrical appliance industries having worked in both the retail and wholesale areas. He has held numerous senior management positions within the retail and wholesale industries, including at Sharp Corporation, Southcorp Appliances and LG. He is also a current director of the National Associated Retail Traders of Australia (NARTA).

Dominic McClelland

Director and Deputy

Dominic is a director and Deputy Chairman of both BSR Franchising Pty Ltd and BSR Australia Ltd, having held those positions since 2008 and 2007 respectively. He has more than 38 years’ experience in electrical retailing, operating the Betta Home Living store in Batemans Bay, NSW, since 1989 and the Betta Home Living store in Ulladulla, NSW, from 1998 until 2015. Dominic is also a current director of Banksia Villages Ltd, a not for profit provider of residential and home based aged care.

Glenn Cain

Director

Glenn is a director of both BSR Australia Ltd and BSR Franchising Pty Ltd having held those positions since 2007 and 2018 respectively, and inaugural Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee. Glenn has been involved in the operation of Betta Home Living Lismore and Chandlers Betta Home Living Casino, NSW, since 2000. Glenn has over 36 years’ experience in the retail electrical industry, and he and his family have been involved with the Betta brand for 28 years.

Carolyn Parker

Non-Executive Director

Carolyn was appointed a director of the BSR Group entities on 1 June 2022. Carolyn is a retail specialist with over 30 years' management experience. Gaining early experience within her family's owner-operated chain of regional retail stores, she later held several senior executive roles at David Jones. She has since formed her own retail company, currently running two stores. Carolyn is Vice Chair of North Coast Community Housing, and Non-Executive Director of National Trust Australia Queensland. She has been Chair of Santos Organics, President of North Byron Business Chamber, and Non-Executive Director of Senior Rights Service. Carolyn has a Master of Business Administration and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Karen Hope

Non-Executive Director

Karen Hope was appointed an independent non-executive director of BSR Australia Ltd on 1 September 2024. Ms Hope has over 25 years’ of experience as a C-suite executive in consumer-driven businesses, driving change management initiatives and crafting business strategies for longer term value creation. Most recently, she held the position of VP and Managing Director, ANZ of Newell Brands (US listed owner of global brands including Sunbeam) until January 2024, having previously held the CEO role since December 2013. Prior to this, she held senior executive positions at the Apparel Group and Barbeques Galore. Karen has an Executive MBA from the University of Technology Sydney and is a graduate of the AICD. She is currently a member of the Finance Council for the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney.
